The length of the female dog's production process varies depending on the breed and physical fitness of the dog. Generally speaking, the whole process takes 3 to 4 hours, and the interval between each fetus is 10 to 30 minutes.

Dogs generally do not require manual midwifery during childbirth, but nowadays, due to the emergence of various ornamental dogs, they have different breeds and are petite and delicate, so they have to help the dogs with manual labor. Before the dog owner is a childbirth, he should wash his hands and disinfect with alcohol or disinfectant. If there is trauma on your hands, latex gloves should be used to prevent infection.

1. A certain method must be paid to the midwife of a bitch:

1. Use your hands to gently transfer the exposed fetus back gently during the intervals of force of the female dog, and rotate the position slightly; then carefully pull out when the female dog is exerting force.

2. For the fetus produced, the fetus should be torn immediately and wiped away the mucus in the nose and mouth with gauze; if the umbilical breaks, you can use surgical sutures to tie the rest 1 cm away from the root, cut off the rest, and then apply 5% iodine to the end to disinfect.

3. If the fetus produced is suffocated or faked by amniotic fluid, the fetus should be lifted upside down, patted gently, discharged amniotic fluid and wiped off the mucus that plugged the nostrils. If you don’t breathe, you can perform artificial respiration.

2. Things to note when midwife:

1. When a female dog gives birth, she should be calm to avoid excitement and nervousness of the female dog. Therefore, during the midwife process, dog owners should try to keep quiet, and do not yell loudly or encourage their dogs. This will backfire and easily scare the dogs.

2. If the female dog is unable to give birth after more than 2 hours of struggle, or the fetus cannot produce all the child after 10 minutes of exposure, be sure to ask the veterinarian to come and help.

3. Do not let the female dog swallow too many placenta, just two or three. Although the placenta has a lactation effect, eating too much will inevitably lead to digestive disorders.

4. After delivery, if there is still bright red excrement in the vagina, the vagina should be plugged immediately with degreased cotton. If the time is long and the bleeding continues, please ask a veterinarian for treatment as soon as possible.
