. I think that borrowing the best parts from the United States and some of their innovative experiences may be of positive significance to the future.

Do you support having official Premier League matches played overseas?

I don't agree with this. I like the format of 19 home games and 19 away games. The Premier League is getting bigger, better and more popular every season. Other leagues may be lagging behind in some way. We don’t need to do this to generate more noise and attract more fans. We can do this within the existing system.

You own club shares in Belgium, Scotland and Australia. What do you think of the multi-club ownership model?

I am happy with the success of Sanguiros United. This is a wonderful story. I’m also very excited about Hearts’ future success in Scotland. But all the clubs operate very independently, so it's not a multi-club ownership model at all. They are all independent football clubs, operating in their own way and on their own merits.

The multi-club model has continued to evolve over the past few years. So this needs to be managed by UEFA. They've made the rules. When Brighton and San Giulos United both competed in the Europa League, there were rules in place. So everyone just needs to follow the rules.

Brighton’s recruitment model is very successful, how do you stay ahead of the curve?

I don't know exactly what other clubs are doing, they don't necessarily talk about it, but you can assume they are spending a lot of time trying to improve in all areas, especially in the analytics area of the recruitment process. So we have to innovate and our goal is to get better every season.

What can new sporting director Jason Aitor bring to the club?

Jason has been in football for a long time, at Arsenal for a long time. He served as interim athletic director for nine months and did a great job. He came very close to being offered the full-time sporting director position at Arsenal. We believe he has the required skills in many different areas.

When he worked for Edu at Arsenal, he saw how things worked there. He brings a lot of different experiences to the table. He is an excellent people manager in various fields. In a sporting context, a football club requires many different skills and we believe Jason possesses these.

Brighton’s signings are spread all over the world. What is the core of this strategy?

We are looking for the best players possible, with the right player type, age structure and price. So we don't care where the players come from, so we have a large number of players of different nationalities in our team.

Our approach to recruitment always starts with data, and we are always looking to improve the level of data and understanding of data. So that hasn't changed and won't change. This is an extremely important element, but there's a lot more to it than just data and making better use of it. And there are always ways to improve the way we do things.

Can this successful model continue?

We can definitely sustain it, but we know it won't be easy, so we never rest on our laurels or lose sight of the enormity of what we strive to achieve each season.

Will Brighton sign a player worth £100 million in the future?

I could not foresee this situation at all. Inflation means this will happen eventually, but I'm not sure I'll still be here by then.
