On the first anniversary of Amorim coaching Manchester United, the Times wrote an article reviewing the Portuguese's tumultuous experience at Old Trafford.

On November 24, 2024, after Manchester United drew 1-1 with Ipswich in the away game, the players waited until around 6:30 in the evening, still waiting for the new head coach Amorin to give a post-match summary. One player asked the staff: "Where is he?" The staff shrugged. It turned out that Amorim was pacing back and forth in the corridor not far from the locker room with his head down. A few minutes later, he raised his head and returned to the real world, but instead of walking directly into the visiting team's locker room, he went straight to the TV reporters waiting to interview him.

Amorim did not conduct a post-match summary in the locker room, which surprised many players. After all, this was the norm under previous coaches Ten Hag and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. For Amorim, he prefers to calm down and think about the game for 5 to 10 minutes before talking to the media, rather than rushing into the locker room full of emotions and then facing the camera directly. There are some exceptions, and he was furious with his players after a home defeat to Brighton in January. He also went into the dressing room after some wins and told his players: "This is my team... I want you to play like this".

In the following weeks, staff noticed some characteristics of Amorim's management style. For example, he would walk directly down the tunnel after winning a game, and would walk onto the pitch to greet the fans after a loss or draw. He wants players to enjoy the applause when they win but not have to bear the pressure of criticism when they lose or perform poorly.

Since Manchester United paid a release fee of 10.6 million pounds to poach him from Sporting CP last November, Amorim has experienced more troughs than highlights. Despite this, Manchester United's top brass still have confidence in him and believe he needs more time to build his team. Amorim said the game against Grimsby was the most difficult moment of his Manchester United career. In that game, Manchester United was eliminated from the League Cup by Grimsby on penalties. Before the game, Manchester United's senior executives also enjoyed fish and chips with their opponents' senior executives, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. However, after the game, they got stuck in traffic and took several hours to get home.

The next day, doubts arose within Manchester United. Amorim had only won 17 of 45 games at the time, seven of which came in the run-up to last season's Europa League final. Despite this, United's hierarchy remain firmly behind him, believing that this season is effectively his first full season.

Amorim took over a team with low morale and lack of fighting spirit. He clashed with Rashford and even said he would rather use the 63-year-old goalkeeper coach than an English winger. Despite facing many problems, Amorim led the team to the Europa League final, although they eventually lost to Tottenham.

This season, the atmosphere at Manchester United has improved. Amorim established a leadership group composed of Bruno Fernandez, Maguire and other players to strengthen the team's sense of responsibility. He has also promoted interaction with fans, asking players to sign autographs before and after games at Old Trafford. Although Manchester United is not currently in the European competition, the training intensity is very high. Amorim's weekly training schedule is very tight, and only once gave the players two days off.

Manchester United's summer signings have also been well received. Mbemo is considered a "surprise", while Cunha, Sheshko and Lamence are also considered players who can withstand the pressure of the club. Amorim's family has settled on the edge of Alderley and he enjoys morning jogs in the village and coffee with his wife in Heller. Although he seemed a bit distant at Carrington last season, he is generally regarded as a pleasant and approachable person. Manchester United fans and owner Ratcliffe hope Amorim can bring more trophies in his second season.
