Cucurella: Winning the Club World Cup to enhance the team s confidence, Maresca lets us on the right path
Cukurelia is about to renew her contract with Chelsea and has agreed to stay in western London. Winning the trophy will make everything easier, and Cucurella talks about the increase in confidence in the team in winning the Club World Cup and the huge progress the team has made under Maresca.
's view on the first win of the season:
"Yes, I think we played a very good game. Although we conceded a goal at the beginning, the team responded very well and we ended up winning this precious three-pointer."
How much impact does winning the Club World Cup have on the team's confidence?
"Very big. We performed very well at the end of the season and won two trophies. In the Club World Cup, not many people were optimistic about us, but we proved that we have a strong team. This gave us a lot of confidence. In addition, we also brought in some new players... We are on the right path, but we have to keep that in shape and can't relax because the season is long and we can achieve many important goals."
Do you think you are one of the leaders of the team?
"It was really difficult at the beginning, but everything took a process. I always tried to do my best, in the game and in training. Now the club is becoming more stable, and everything is moving in the good direction. I am very happy to be at this club and do my part. Everything will be easier when we win the trophy. Hopefully we can continue to stay that way."
Is Chelsea expected to win the Premier League?
"All of us here want to win trophys. Obviously it's not easy, our roster is very young, but if we go to play one game after another, I believe we can do it. The most important thing is the result. We didn't do it last week, but this week we showed our strength. We have a calm mind and worked hard to enjoy the game, and today we did it, and hope we can continue to maintain that."
What was the key to Maresca coaching last season?
"He has a very good idea. Every game we tried to bring something different to surprise our opponents, and we did. For example, today's game (equaling) happened at a critical moment because we were a little frustrated, but the first goal on set pieces was very important to us. It gave us confidence. Since then, we have been fully committed to the game and enjoy it. I am very happy with the trust that the coaches and teammates have given me."
