After West Ham United lost 1-2 away to Leeds United and suffered the joint worst record at the start of the season, team captain Bowen accepted an interview. He admitted that the team was in "real trouble" and called on his teammates to step up.

Q: How do you assess the team's current situation?

Bowen: This is the Premier League, we really need to make changes. Because we are in a real dilemma. We have to face the reality, the sooner this thing touches everyone, the more things need to change.

Q: Can you say anything positive after this loss?

Bowen: You can't stand here and say anything different. You can't say anything positive or anything like that. You have to face the reality of where we are: penultimate, we're in trouble right now. We have to accept this.

Q: What do you think the team is missing on the court?

Bowen: I was just not brave enough and didn’t do the job well until the end. We got a goal back but it was disallowed. It always feels like a goal is missing and you always get some confidence when you score. We scored but it was too late. Not good enough.

Q: Why is the team struggling so much?

Bowen: There could be many reasons behind this. But when you're second from bottom in the league and have won just one game all season, morale in the dressing room is low.

Q: How should the team turn the situation around?

Bowen: I've been saying for weeks now, stand up and be interviewed: The only way that's going to change this is for players to step up and be ready to fight.

We need more performances like this week in and week out. It's easy to hide and feel scared when things aren't going your way, but it's easier said than done. We have to do this, that was my only thought. This is what I have always said to the players, they have to work hard, because no one will give up victory.
