TA: Chelsea will pay players more than £10m in Club World Cup championship prize
The Athletic reported that Chelsea will pay players more than £10 million in the Club World Cup championship prize.
Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final held at the Metropolitan Life Stadium in New Jersey in July, winning the newly revised Club World Cup championship. The championship brought the club about US$114.6 million (£84.4 million) in revenue. The
club then allocated a $15.5 million (£11.4 million) bonus pool to be evenly distributed to all players representing Maresca in the event. The total bonus per player is awarded more than $500,000 before deducting the currency conversion costs of USD to pound, related employer costs, taxes and social security expenses.
Chelsea won over $100 million in this four-week US event, runner-up Paris Saint-Germain won $106.9 million, and Real Madrid won $82.5 million. This additional revenue helps the club continue to be active in the transfer market this summer, with new players such as Joao Pedro, Gittens, Harto and Drapp joining Stamford Bridge one after another.
Maresca's team will face Crystal Palace at home this Sunday, starting the 2025-26 Premier League season.
